So here you are sitting on the world race website, looking around, reading blogs, watching videos and you are thinking, “Is this for me?”

We’ve all pretty much been there.
“Why do they call it the World Race?”
“Do these people ever shower?”
“Are these people normal?”
“Is this a cult?”

Even though I know you probably have thousands of questions, this is my simple advice for you.

1. Pray about it.
I know this is the most Christianese thing to say but it’s true.

“Continue steadfastly in prayer, being watchful in it with thanksgiving.” Colossians 4:2.

You really need to seek the Lord and His direction about this huge decision. Not just because He is our Lord and Savior, but because at the end of the day you need to be sure he sent you and this is His will for your life.

“In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will.” Ephesians 1:11.

If you choose to do this, you are going to come up against a spiritual battle and you need to be confident about where the Lord is guiding you. The enemy is going to use every sneaky card to get you to not go but through diligent prayer you will be able stand firm in the Lord’s will for your life.

Really, pray about it, journal about it, see where the Lord is pulling your heart. Take time to listen to His voice. Also, at this point, don’t worry about the specifics. Just pray about the World Race in general, you being a part of short-term missions, and where God is directing you.

“And the LORD answered me:
“Write the vision; make it plain on tablets, so he may run who reads it. For still the vision awaits its appointed time; it hastens to the end –it will not lie. If it seems slow, wait for it; it will surely come; it will not delay.” Habakkuk 2:2-3.

2. Write down your concerns, drawbacks, and questions and pray about it again.
I know this is a big decision, I’ve been there. You want to be thorough, make sure this is a good fit and know what you are getting yourself into. I also want to remind you not to stress. God will take you through your own little journey even before the race. If you want to read a little about mine click here & here.

I feel like one of the biggest concerns for people is raising the money. This is where #1 comes in handy again. If you are going to walk down this road, go through this journey, you need to be sure that this is where God is directing you. Remember the saying where God guides, He provides? God will provide in crazy ways.

“And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:19.

Again pray about your concerns and drawbacks. Are they valid? Can God overcome them? Is this where God wants you to grow? Is this where God is calling you to step out of your comfort zone?

“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be made know to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your heats and your minds in Christ Jesus.”
Philippians 4:6.

3. Talk it out.
Talk to past racers.
Talk to current racers.
Pick up the phone and talk to Adventures in Mission and the people at World Race. I know that this might be as scary as calling that hottie you met from small group but you don’t need to worry. The WR has already given you their number. The staff is so friendly and so nice. They know you’ll have questions and they are more than willing to help you figure some things out.

“Where there is no guidance, a people falls, but in an abundance of counselors there is safety.”
Proverbs 11:14.

Blessings on your journey.
