This month I met Suzan.
She is the sweetest little 8 year old girl. One day I wasn’t feeling good at all. It was really hot, I had a bad stomach ache, and I just needed to sit down for a while. In my broken spanish I told her that I wasn’t feeling good and that she could go play with the the other girls if she wanted. She grabbed my hand and told me to sit on the cement curb and said she would be right back. She walked to her house and brought back a little plastic chair for me to sit in and there she sat. She grabbed my hand and just sat with me.
It was just an example of their culture. There is time and space to just sit with someone. Sometimes there doesn’t need to be a deep conversation. Sometimes you just need someone to sit with you. Just being is so important.
It was really cool. Here was an 8 year old girl being an amazing friend to me even though we spoke different languages. Here was a true example of actions speak louder than words.
