I’ve learned so many things from being on this team the past couple of months and I’m so thankful for my sisters that I’ve gotten to connect with on a deeper level because of our all girl team.
I’ve learned that we are each so unique. We are beautiful in our own ways. God has designed us and fashioned us. Psalms 119:73 says, “Your hands have made and fashioned me; give me understanding that I may learn your commandments.”
I’ve learned that beauty takes many forms. Beauty might have little freckles; intensely blue eyes, a beautiful smile, and a cute nose. I’ve seen how beautiful each one of my teammates are wearing no makeup, singing with kids in the village and not shaving for days.
I’ve learned that girls are stronger than you think. We’ve had to carry our own bags when guys aren’t there to load up the truck. We’ve had to brave walks together at night. We’ve had to skip the screaming and just kill the spiders and coach roaches ourselves. Well maybe some of us didn’t skip the screaming…
We can encourage each other best. We tap into our emotions and help each other see the good so we can all tap into the joy the Lord has for us.
We understand that tears are just water. We don’t freak out when each other sheds a tear or is crying because it has been one of those days. It’s completely okay to share what you are feeling. No apologies for crying here.
We say Amen and Blessings to where each one of us is at on this journey. Our age ranges from 21 to 30 on this team and we help each other see things from a different perspective.
I’ve learned that each of us brings something new to the table. We each have a special gift to offer. Romans 12:6-8 says “Having gifts that differ according to the grace given to us, let us use them: if prophecy, in proportion to our faith; if service, in our serving; the one who teaches, in his teaching; the one who exhorts, in his exhortation; the one who contributes, in generosity; the one who leads, with zeal; the one who does acts of mercy, with cheerfulness.”
There is always chocolate and a girl willing to share. We get each other’s cravings and never guilt our fellow sister for eating some sweet chocolaty goodness getting some extra carbs. Never.
We don’t live up to the stigma that girls are catty, drama, and emotional wrecks. We have called each other to be women of the Lord, seeking what he desires for our lives. Proverbs 3:3 says “Let not steadfast love and faithfulness forsake you; bind them around your neck and write them on the table of your heart.”
We can go to a deeper level of vulnerability because there are no boys around. We can say things that you just can’t say with our brothers listening. And no one complains of someone talking too much. We are all about conversations and communication.
Love,
ASH
