…Its about midnight right now as I write and cross over into a new day. 2day, I leave Lagos, and begin my Journey back home to the States. Yes, I was able to take a quick trip back home to Nig over the Christmas season. T’was an absolute blessing to be able to see my 2 neices for the very 1st time, one of which turns 2 in 6 days.
Well apart from my neices, coming home to Nig (well Lagos to be exact) was a good pre-training for me as my dad puts it. The power company (NEPA -Never Expect Power Always….just sometimes, has since been changed to PHCN -Power Holding Company of Nigeria…yep, tru to their name, they really hold the power from their customers) keeping us in the dark for close to 18 of 24hrs daily and yes, we are grateful for the 6hrs of light we do get, trust me, it could be much worse. The relentless heat and humidity, giving the best tan & weight loss program money can buy. Then we have the very friendly Yum-Yum, as is called in my native tounge(Yoruba)….it means Mosquito’s. Oh yea, mosquito’s can tell when your blood is fresh out of the country….Yum!!!…:-) Oh, did I forget the traffic?!? these are but a few of the training excercises U go through and I really wouldn’t change a thing…..hmm, OK maybe I’d change the power situation….the sound of generators constantly blaring becomes deafning after a while or in most cases, becomes your baseline normal sound.
Anyway, my time in this great up and coming country is just ’bout up again…for the time being anyway, and I enjoyed my time reconnecting with some old friends, gooood home cooking, and great local travel on the ‘Wings of Nigeria’. I also got re-introduced to the amazing skill it takes to drive & navigate around the other vehicles on the roads of Lagos, and now, I finally understand the source of my skill as a driver…& shoot, I hate to float my boat, but I’m good. Thats ’cause at a very young age, I learnt how to drive under these conditions. Nascar/NYC has got nothing on Lagos drivers & motocyclicts.
Well, just wanted to put something on paper, give a little update. I should be just ’bout getting to Dubai ’bout this time manana, another very interesting place, b4 heading back to the States. Pls do keep me & my travel buddy(my big Bro) in prayer.
