After several weeks of the idea of the race sinking in, and making the initial efforts toward fund raising, today a reality hit me:
I have 8 days before my first financial deadline of $3,500 is due.
Which brings me to a confession (but not a confession of a thug). I have never been much of the type to worry about material possessions. I must admit, such a personality type will come in handy while on the race, but it certainly comes with it's drawbacks when left unchecked:
- I lose things regularly (including important things like my keys and wallet)
- Locking doors is a habit I fail to embrace regularly
- My personal finances often get neglected
When I lived with my parents, I just about drove my dad crazy with how often I would forget to lock the door. So what's the confession? A little bit of neglect on my end! I trust that the money will be provided by God's providence, and as such, lost a sense of urgency.
Today, that sense of urgency returned when I spoke with my "mobilizer" for the race, who kindly reminded me of the deadline, and that not reaching it means not going on the race in January. Talk about a reality check! I'm reminded of a videogame I used to play when I was younger, "Megaman X4" — when you took enough damage to almost die, he would shout out a cheesy "Time to get serious!"
As I redouble my efforts toward the race, I do so hoping you will come alongside me and invest your resources in serving people in need all over the world. By September 27th, I must raise $3,500. At of the time of writing this blog, that means I must raise another $2,850 in the next 8 days. It sounds difficult, but I know God is capable! Will you partner with me in faith of God's provision, and help me reach my deadline by donating today? Any amount, even a few dollars, would be extremely helpful.

UPDATE: (9/30/2013)
As of today, 2 days after my deadline, I'm still about $1500 short. (which is a long ways from $2850 short!) But it's not too late! As a last-ditch effort, I have until October 9th to push toward $3500 before I have to consider going on a later trip next year. Thank you all for your generous giving!
