This week, while I was reading the Bible, a passage of scripture made me stop and think
6 [Christ,] who though he existed in the form of God
did not regard equality with God
as something to be grasped,
7 but emptied himself
by taking on the form of a slave,
by looking like other men,
and by sharing in human nature.
8 He humbled himself,
by becoming obedient to the point of death
– even death on a cross!
9 As a result God exalted him
and gave him the name
that is above every name,
10 so that at the name of Jesus
every knee will bow
– in heaven and on earth and under the earth –
11 and every tongue confess
that Jesus Christ is Lord
to the glory of God the Father.Philippians 2:6-11
Christ became obedient to the point of death. But it was more than that. He once was in the form of God, then became nothing. He didn't die an easy death. He was tortured died on a cross. . . His death was extreme.
That afternoon, I had some free time, so I sat down at a piano, and this song came out. I hope you enjoy it.
Lyrics
When you took the cross, you didn’t just die
There was so much more to your sacrifice
It wasn’t just a man hanging on that treeThe word of God in incarnate form
Humbled to a man for the glory of the Lord
The most divine, experienced sacrifice. When He bled, he didn't just die
All the wrath of God from our sins took his life
When He wept, He didn't just cry
The Son of God was forsaken for our crime
Holy blood was spilled when Jesus died
But he didn't just dieWhen you opened the grave, you didn’t just rise
There was so much more to your new life
You didn’t conquer death just so you could live againHe who made himself nothing now the King of Kings
And with his rule we’re made royalty
In His life, He calls us “Bride”When He bled, he didn't just die
All the wrath of God from our sins took his life
When He wept, He didn't just cry
The Son of God was forsaken for our crimeWhen He bled, he didn't just die
All the wrath of God from our sins took his life
When He wept, He didn't just cry
The Son of God was forsaken for our crime
Holy blood was spilled when Jesus died
But he didn't just dieThe curse of death that was on Him
He conquered it, He rose again
Jesus our hope of Glory, Jesus our King of Glory
He rose to life and gave us more
Now we're with Him on eternity’s shore
Jesus our hope of Glory, Jesus our KingWhen He bled, he didn't just die
All the wrath of God from our sins took his life
When He wept, He didn't just cry
The Son of God was forsaken for our crime
Holy blood was spilled when Jesus died
But he didn't just die
So what about you? What does Jesus' death mean to you?
