an old blog post worth repeating i believe.
it's past 3am. I've been awake for over 24 hours. And I still can't sleep. There's a lot of things that keep me awake. Stress over job stability. Stress of having a mortgage. Stress about making decisions.
But I think the one thing that's keeping me awake right now is the fact that hell is a real place. It's not what we're going through right now here on earth. No one can actually say, "i'm going through hell", or "this place is hell". Hell is absolute torment. And it's real. It's also final. Once you get there, there's no escaping it. Not even time can help you, because it's eternal damnation. The sad thing is, that's not the worst part of hell. The absolute worst part of hell is every single one of us deserves to go there. (yes, even the goodest of all good people you know).
And no, that's not unfair. Definitely not unfair. You know how you get annoyed at parents who have their spoiled ass kids running around where you are, and they aren't doing anything about it? Don't you just want to scream at the parents and say, "DUDE! Do something about your kid! Go all up on their asses already!" We are all spoiled brats, whether we want to admit it or not. And in the same way, we have to expect God to do something about it too. Each and every single one of us is selfish, a liar, a thief (piracy is stealing!). And each and every one of us deserve to be punished. Just as we seek justice and find it right for people who have done wrong to be punished, so will our God the Maker of those very rules and our very lives. If we, imperfect people, seek out justice against other imperfect people, what more a perfect God against us?
But God, in His AMAZING LOVE, did what any man-made god will never do. He made himself into nothing to be our servant. And not just a servant. He made Himself our very own sacrifice! He took our punishment for us! He bore ALL THE WORLDS SINS. PAST, PRESENT, AND FUTURE! Jesus, to whom ALL OF CREATION WAS MADE, the very DARLING OF HEAVEN. THE KING OF ALL KINGS! He gave ALL OF THAT UP just so we can tie him up, nail him up on a cross not before we tore his flesh apart and punish him for something we have done. And on that cross, he suffered being separated by God, being forsaken by God, after being with Him for all of ETERNITY, to be the perfect sacrifice.
All so we can avoid going to hell, eternal damnation.
Name me one person in anyone's life who has made a bigger sacrifice than that.
It's sad, because a lot of people take it lightly. A lot of people think hell is going to be one big party because they know everyone they know is gonna go there anyway. It's like one big happy reunion. Right, coz that's how hell's been described every since the beginning of time. (i hope you noticed my sarcasm).
I'm not talking about hell to scare people away. I don't want anybody going there. I don't. And whoever is reading this, you're the one i'm talking about. You may not believe it, but it's true. This is coming from the very bottom of my heart. I'm not pushing any sort of religion down anybody's throat. But understand this: God absolutely loves you. He doesn't want you to go to hell either.
And there is a way. And please… please, make the right decision. You can live without God in this life and the next. Or can you can live with God in this life and the next.
Nothing. Absolutely NOTHING is worth giving up the eternal joy and happiness God has prepared for us in heaven.
