I’ve spent 3 weeks in Arad, Romania, and I’m no expert on Romania, obviously. However, I have learned a few things.
1. Romania was under communism until ’89-90.
2. Romania makes a lot of train cars.
3. Romania has really good gymnasts. (OK, I learned that one from watching the Olympics…)
4. Romania has really good sausages called mici.
There’s a train car “factory” (?) in Arad, and we passed it every time we went in to town. One day our contact told us that under communism that plant employed 17,000 workers. They produced 1 car a week. When communism fell the plant was taken over by another company and they reduced the work force to 1,700. The plant now produces 10 cars a week. (No joke, that’s correct. I proofread it!)
So lots of people running amuck and “working” doesn’t necessarily equal productivity? Busyness doesn’t always mean the outcome is good or fruitful?
I don’t have a lot of wisdom or revelation on this. I could talk about the things we think we need to do to please God, to be a good church goer, etc but that’s not what is on my heart when I think about this story. I just want to pose a few questions. That’s all.
How often to we mistake busyness for something it’s not?
How often to we hide behind busyness because we’re afraid the truth about our deeds, our faith, and our lives will shame or hurt us? (PS guilt and shame are NEVER from God. Conviction is…but Godly conviction leads to repentance and freedom, not condemnation and guilt.)
How do our actions match up with our fruit? How is our fruit??
That’s all. Any thoughts our comments are greatly appreciated.
