There is surely a future hope for you,
and your hope will not be cut off.  Proverbs 23:18

I’ve seen hope in the eyes of a prostitute.  I saw joy overflowing from a woman who lives and works in the city dump.  We brought joy to a mourning church by fulfilling a prophecy.  We’re filling Puerto Barrios with life by bringing hope to this city!

This week we spent time praying with men outside of bars and prostitutes, playing basketball with the teens at the park, visiting and praying with poor families, playing w/ orphans, leading youth group, and painting a church.  We’ve been blessed by these people too!  Several families w/ next to nothing shared their fruit with us!  Even better, we’ve seen the Holy Spirit show up in a tangible way bringing tears and people to the floor, but more importantly we’ve seen hope rise up in these people.

Estela is a prostitute here in the city.  When we asked if we could pray for her she told us about her 4 children in Nicaragua.  After praying, she began to open up to us.  She told us that she was sick to her stomach.  Andi asked her if she had any fears.  She told us it was her first night at the bar and she was nervous.  She was afraid of the people there and was visibly freaked out.  Our hearts broke.  We prayed over her again and shared the gospel with her.  We could see the hope in her face, but her emotions were overwhelming her at the time.  We left her a card with Zephaniah 3:17 on it and were feeling a strong sense of hope that she will come to know God – that she would cry out to Him that very night.

Marisol lives in the city dump.  She has a baby with dengue fever in the hospital in the capitol city 8 hours away.  She saw us enter the dump and was hoping that we would visit her.  She told us she was our sister in Christ.  At that time prayed to fill her with the Holy Spirit – talk about a tangible experience!  We could physically feel his presence and visibly see her change as she was filled.  What joy crossed her face!  More joy than most people ever experience and in her situation – wow!  We believe that she will rise up as a leader to the women in the dump.

Shiloh Church was mourning over the pastor’s father-in-law’s death one day before their huge anniversary celebration.  They had been praying for quite some time that the church somehow to be painted.  They also had a separate prophecy that a huge blessing/surprise was coming to their church soon.  When 13 white people showed up to paint their church, they were floored!  Both a need and a prophecy were fulfilled at an hour of great pain and need.  Joy and hope filled that church!

Life has been given in our first week!  We’ve been blown away by God’s presence and faithfulness to us!  Let’s be honest – it wasn’t all pretty.  The dump smelled like the pit of hell and painting that church was awful because they poured water into the paint so we had to paint like 3 coats…  But God has brought beauty, which is powerful in itself, to these rotten hopeless places.  We have hope that these people will draw near to God because we saw and felt the Holy Spirit fall.

Wow, I love life!
