I didn’t get a chance
to read very much in Thailand because of the scarcity of English books
available, but I did get to watch some great movies located on my external hard-drive:
The Count of Monte Cristo (why have I
not seen this before? What a great movie), Requiem
for a Dream (wow. Not that I ever
wanted to do drugs but if I did you couldn’t pay me to do them now), Memento (I watched it before I went to
sleep and had weird, backwards dreams), Into
the Wild (one of my favorites since Summer ’09), Meet the Fockers (very funny…has anyone seen the third one?), and Big (a classic I never had the chance to
see. Fun movie) to name a few.
The books I did get the opportunity to read…
Brisingr by Christopher Paolini- The 3rd
installment of the “Inheritance Cycle”, it was a fast read for me and I was sad
when I found out the fourth book doesn’t come out until November. I think this
may have been my least favorite out of the three I’ve read, mostly because
Paolini draws things out unnecessarily and had an entire chapter devoted to the
inner-workings of sword-making that bored me to tears (I skipped through most
of it). I would recommend reading it, and also reading the fourth book which
comes out November 8th.
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott- I can’t remember
if I had read this before or just watched the movie a million times, but I
loved the story so much! Jo, Beth, Amy & Meg are such strikingly different
personalities yet they love each other and play together every day in the March
house. I was very sad that the book ended with the engagement of Meg &
John…I guess it’s part of a series? A great tale of Civil War times,
transcendentalism, and feminism in its early stages. A hearty recommendation.
Don’t worry, I make up for the lack of reading in Cambodia… J
