Since we’re required to blog at least once a week while on the Race, I figured now is as good a time as any to start getting into that habit! I have kept a blog at different points in my life, so it is somewhat familiar territory. First I had a “livejournal”…starting in middle school I think. Pretty sure I had nothing of importance to say back then! Xanga was next, which I kept through high school. I wrote on that blog rather frequently, though it was probably just full of teenage angst and bragging about how I found the best musician ever before anyone knew about them (why do all teenagers do this?). Then I had a blogspot for a few years in college, though I would only write once in a blue moon.
Now I’m HERE! A blog I’m required to participate in and with a real purpose. I’m a frequent blog reader and enjoy staying connected to people who aren’t a part of my immediate life anymore. Plus it’s a pretty efficient way to keep everyone up to date on your comings and goings without meeting individually for coffee, lunch, etc. I’m all about efficiency. Frank Gilbreth is pretty much my hero.
What’s going on with me?
1-I moved in with the Womacks, a family at my church, and will be living with them until December. They are a fun group! Ryan & Jackie have been married for 15 years and have two sons, Isaac (11) and Joey (6). After living with just girls for my 22 years of life, living with boys sure changes things! I love them and love learning things about marriage, family, kids, as well as learning how to get to the next level on Super Mario Galaxy.
2-Summer School! This is my first time to be in College Station during the summer and my first summer school experience. It’s not as horrible as I thought it would be, but it is a lot of work! I took a 5-hour Food Service Systems
Management class during the first 5 weeks that pretty much was my life. It was time consuming and a lot of work, but I really enjoyed all the things that we learned. We went on Field Trips just about every week! I’m also taking a 10 week Biochemistry course. It’s the 2nd installment of Biochem, but way harder for me to understand. I struggled through the first half, but hopefully now that my workload is less I can spend more time on it. I started the Biochem lab this past week and it seems pretty harmless. Work, yes, but nothing too scary.
3-WEDDINGS! If I went to each wedding I’ve been invited to since May, I would have been to 9 weddings! Since a lot of them happened on the same day, I’ve only been able to attend four, which I’ve enjoyed immensely. A formal congratulations goes out to the Agnor, Hess, Jones, Steiner, Maxwell, Jackson, Graham, Hards, and Longoria families! I have loved being a witness to the sacrament of marriage for so many couples and the celebrations that have followed. I have one more this weekend then I’ll be done until October.
4-Putting the Fun in Fundraising- This summer begins the official start to my World Race fundraising efforts. I had a garage sale at my parents’ house the last weekend of May and raised $500! Who knew all my junk would amount to that much? We are holding another one in the foreseeable future since it really only consisted of my own stuff, and there are 4 other family members’ junk to comb through! I have started drafting my support letter, but am having trouble completing it. I want it to have a good balance portraying my passion for this ministry but not be money grumbling. Pray that I can use my words correctly and not end up like one Jon Acuff makes fun of.
