hooray money talk!!

Probably my least and most favorite part of the World Race is the fundraising. LEAST because it is a little uncomfortable, can feel like begging, is something you can’t really control, and because it is [sometimes] an overwhelming sum of money ($15,000). MOST because it’s really fun to write letters to people I don’t really keep in contact with, because it is SO COOL to see who the Lord uses & what ways He provides, and because I get to have a family of supporters back here in the States to think about when I have doubts, fears, etc. Your support will help me to think, “i’m not alone in this, people love & believe in me, and they confirmed that I am supposed to be here!

I have loved seeing people around me give so freely & j
oyfully to this cause. Even my college friends that have no money! I am so impressed at how the Lord has provided so far and each dollar given helps encourage me on this journey.

Let me give you a little more detail on where your money is going:

2% for Training Camp
4% for Field Support (our squad leaders, coaches, and debrief stuff)
12% goes to the World Race development program
17% Goes to all the Administration fees that we require (all our travel, logistics, lodging…crazy to figure this out for 45 people at a time!)
and
65% goes directly to the Racer, to meet their immediate needs

Here’s that breakdown:
$4,235 for our intercontinental travel for the year
$460 per month, broken down as:
$3.75/day for food
$5.25/day for lodging
$3.00/day for transport
$3.33/day for long distance travel (buses, trains) and miscellaneous stuff like translators, toilet paper, and the like.

Crazy, right?? Really gives you an idea of the kind of lifestyle I’ll be living. There’s no weird fees, lavish spending, or lazy vacay time in this finance plan. You’re paying me to bring heaven crashing into earth, bringing joy and hope to those that have none! That’s a pretty cool place to send your money.

Since I’m giving you all the “deets” anyway, here’s the game plan I’ve come up with since learning I was headed on this Race:

Feb/March
*take Save the Dates & send them out –> if you haven’t received one, let me know! I will gladly spent 28 cents for you to get a postcard with my bright shiny face on it. courtesy of rebecca jordan photography
Support Account: $639.70

May
*big garage sale! raised over $500
*try to figure out a fundraising game plan
Support Account: $1120.20

Summer
*obtain addresses, draft support letter a million times, get letters printed, get lots of stamps & envelopes, and send them out!
Support Account: $1923.95

September
*fundraising dinner! raised over $1400 and gave some people yummy food
Support Account: $3443.95

October
*another garage sale, raised over $500
*training camp!!
Support Account: $6291.10

November
*begin T-shirt sales! The mock up should be done by Tuesday and pre-orders can start! They are probably the coolest long sleeve tees you have EVER seen. courtesy of my sister’s amazing design skills.
*Do follow up emails. Who knows how this will go because I mostly just have a lot of mailing addresses. I’ll include how the preparation for the trip is going & share my excitement and renewed passion for going.
Support Account: $7,166.10 (not including some checks I haven’t mailed in yet)

December
*Follow up with more people, sell more Tshirts, PRAY LOTS. One of my friends just stood at a busy street corner with a sign to raise money for her mission trip so maybe I’ll try that!
Support Account will (hopefully) be about $10,000 (though I would be happy with more!)

While I’m gone: I know the Lord will provide if i still have money to raise while I’m on the trip, but I would LOVE to have it all by the time I leave! What a blessing that would be & it would let me do ministry without any numbers nagging at me. I’m praying this will happen!

That’s all for now! I’ll probably post again this week, hopefully about a cheerier topic. Thanks for reading!
