Yup, that’s what I called my fancy-schmancy dinner fundraiser. I was hoping my alliterations skills and length of the title would catch some interest. Did it work? Maybe.
Ryan (my fake dad, aka my roommate, aka dad of the family I live with) came up with the idea a few weeks ago that I should do a fun dinner thing to raise some money for my trip. I had made them a big dinner recently and they knew I had some experience (and found joy in) making food for larger amounts of people. So we picked a weekend and got things rolling! We announced the event at our church, and though I was scared there would be a low turn out, we ended up having 15 people!! And they were some of my favorite people as well. Shout out to The (future) Smiths, Lauren, the Hogans, the Stolz’s, the Womacks, the Fogles, Eli, Stephanie, and the Agnors! It was a really fun night (though I was in the kitchen most of the time) and I loved getting to see everyone interact with each other & enjoy the evening, no rush or anything pressing. Here’s my menu:
*Spinach Artichoke Dip with Chips (the only thing storebought…can’t be superwoman!)
*Homemade Knot Rolls with Honey Butter
*Roasted Butternut Squash Soup
*Roasted Pork Loin with Granny Smith Apples
*Cranberry Wild Rice Pilaf
*Green Beans
*the best apple cake you’ve ever had
*Peanut Butter Silk Pie with Reese’s Magic Shell
yum!! I spent all day (not exaggerating) getting everything ready and it was still pretty down to the wire once everyone arrived. I am SO thankful to the Womacks for helping me get everything ready & prettied up and want to give a shout out to Isaac for being the best Water Boy/Drink Specialist ever! The person who should receive tops honors, though, is Kristen! She helped me keep my cool once everyone started coming and was strong on the dishes front for more than an hour!! She’s a machine, I think. A pretty machine.
All in all, it was hard work but just enough that I enjoyed it and LOVED everyone’s compliments after the dinner was over, which lasted about 3 hours!! And now… the total for the amount raised….
$1433!!!
So great! The Lord provided that money though only 15 people! It’s like the fishes and loves! I don’t know if I’ll do something like this again but I’m glad I had the opportunity to spur on some cool fellowship and provide a fun date night for the couples. I didn’t take any pictures but I think a few of my guests did.
Only 20 days till training camp….is this really happening??
I feel like a post isn’t complete without pictures, so I’ll leave you with a comical photo taken by the famous Thomas K. Ufer:
