What. When. Where. Why. Who.

The order may not roll off your tongue, bear with me.

What is the World Race?

Succinctly, it is an 11-month mission trip in 11 different countries. I’ll be working with a “team” of 6 or so other people in support of local missions in each country. This means I’ll be doing everything from evangelism to working with children to teaching English to the best of my ability.

When do you go?

August 2018.

Where will you be serving?

The full list is Panama, Costa Rica, Nicaragua, El Salvador, Malawi, Zambia, Zimbabwe, Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Malaysia.

Why The World Race?

To answer a question with a question…. Why not?

It’s a one-of-a-kind opportunity. I’ll have the chance to see people knowing the same God and worshiping him across different cultures. It’s a chance to be uncomfortable in a community that will drive me to lean on God in my discomfort. The format of the World Race with tight-knit squads of 6-8 people is an invitation to honesty and self-improvement. This will help me be intentional in inviting God into my daily habits and decisions. I’ll be learning to live for others and to die to myself. Which is all my part of the journey. Which leads us to…

Who will I be ministering to?

Only time will tell exactly who I have the opportunity to serve. The only certainty is my squad-mates and I will find ourselves living among and working with the least fortunate, at least in a material sense. How I serve in each place will be a function of what the community needs and what ministry we are working with. Beyond the direct objects of our ministry, my squad will also be ministering to one another. The final group will be my readers. That’s you. Part of this journey is blogging as a ministry–offering you a window into my journey, to bring you my story, from the mundane to the extraordinary. That’s the entire reason for keeping this blog.

All that said, I would encourage you to hit subscribe. In return, I promise I won’t glut your inbox. The posts will be pithy, and worth a few minutes of your time. Also know this is a two-sided experience, so feel free to comment or message me personally about anything that piques your interest.

Thanks for taking step number one with me in this journey. Stay tuned!
