Dear Friends and family,
I pray this letter finds you well. As many of you may know, I have been working crazy hours here lately, doing whatever I can to make ends meet. During this time I kept wondering what I was missing. I had a good job, a reliable car, and a house of my own. Living the American dream. I should feel accomplished, right? As much as I had going for me, I was unsatisfied. I would see opportunities to help the needy and because of time constraints not be able to do so. I kept thinking I have to do something. I have to get involved. Well this New Year's I was introduced to the World Race through a couple of friends. After much prayer and several confirmations, I applied, got accepted, and committed to this journey.
The World Race is an 11 month missions trip though the parent company Adventures in Missions or AIM. Crazy right? Through adventure, ministry, community, and self-discovery World Racers will develop broken hearts that propel their hands to act for God's Kingdom around the globe. My team and I will partner with churches and ministries in local communities preaching the gospel, planting churches, praying for the sick, working in orphanages, ministering to women and children who are victims of human trafficking. We will have a training camp about a month prior to leaving, where we will learn the ins and outs of travel and living in countries much different than our own, as well as getting the discipleship needed to serve in these different ministries.
My vision for this journey is two-fold. First, I want to grow intimately close to Christ by imitating what I have read about Him in the Bible, and through a total surrender of my will. Second, I hope to give hope to the hopeless, heal the sick, love the unlovable, to bring God to those who don't know Him. I also expect to bring home this passion and share it with all those I come in contact with. I am excited for this opportunity to love the "least of these," and have faith that God will provide for me and my teammates/squad mates.
I am asking for your support and humbly offering myself to be your ambassador, to go where you may not be able to and speak on your behalf. One way you can support me is in prayer. I will be sending out prayer requests and updates and praise reports, likely through facebook and on my blog: anthonybaker.theworldrace.org. The second way you can support me is financially. The cost for going is $15,500. While this is A LOT, it is also quite manageable. I mean its just 15 people giving $100/month for 10 months, or 30 at $50/month, or 150 people at $10/month. This 15,500 includes my food, travel, and living situations while I'm in the field. There are several ways you can give as either a one time gift or through monthly donations. You can donate online through my blog, by mailing in a check, or by using a system called Dynapay. More detailed information about how to donate is located below.
I am excited to see what this next chapter of my life holds, and I pray that I will be a blessing not only to all those in need I will meet, but to you as well. If you have any questions, or would simply like to talk, feel free to call or text (423) 457-2591, or send me a message on FB. (I will likely not have my phone once I leave). I will be blogging often, especially once I'm in the field. I encourage you to follow my blog to keep up with my journey. Thank you for taking the time to read this letter, and for prayerfully considering supporting me in this journey.
Many blessings,
Anthony Baker
