We flew into Kathmandu on the first of April, ready for a new month and many new ministry opportunities! Little did we know but we were in for a pleasant surprise!

Our ministry host Deepak, picked us up from the airport and we began driving through the busy streets. As we looked out the window, we were about to ask for directions to come back to this cool area when the bus stopped and we realised we were staying on this fun street!

We stayed in a guest house on a busy touristy street for just over a week. It was so much fun to explore the streets with all the other foreigners and check out the hidden little shops on every corner.

Our ministry was varied with different things each day so here are a couple of highlights.

Buddhist Temple

Deepak took us on a walk up to a Buddhist Temple one day. He spoke to us about the prayer wheels and how they are used and what people believe. He has great insight as he was actually raised in a Buddhist family so he could speak to us from firsthand experience.

He encouraged us to walk around and be observant as well as pray for the people and the strongholds. The spirit of fear is strong in that place and later as a team we discussed noticing and recognising and having a time to pray for that together.

Leper Colony

To get to the leper colony was quite an adventure in itself. We walked a short distance to the bus stop where we crammed (yes there were a lot of people on that bus!) into a bus for a 40min drive.

After we got off the bus, we hiked down a mountain and across a huge, rickety bridge and into the leper compound.

The pastor warmly welcomed us and spoke to us about the colony. He said we were free to walk around, talking and praying for the people. Our translator Jeevan helped us and we were able to have some good conversations.

A bit later a lady brought her absolutely beautiful granddaughter to me and asked if I would pray for her. After I prayed, the grandmother left to be with her daughter but the little girl, Ribicca remained in my lap.

She was so content to just be with me and it was a sweet way to finish the afternoon.

Dail Feeding

On our final day in the city, we were taken to a feeding program amongst the slums. On the way there, Audra asked what I was hoping to see throughout the morning. Not knowing anything about the ministry, I said that I hoped it would be a wholistic program.

And that it was. It is a joint partnership between Nepal and South Korea and it is part of a community called Dail. It was so impressive! They feed over 350 kids each weekday and I found out that they cook over 30kgs of rice per day!!

The whole program is very organised and the kids sing and pray before being served their meal. They then attend the school that has been set up next door.

I loved getting to spend the morning with them and being involved with such an incredible program!

It was so great to be able to see a few different sides of the city and see what is happening for the beautiful people of Nepal in Kathmandu.

(Pictures to come!)
