Hey everybody! I am so thrilled that I can finally say I’m reporting to y’all from…COSTA RICA!! While I’m here, I would love to do another Q&A so please send me your questions!!!
Being here has been an amazing experience and we are only 7 days in, and I am so excited to fill you all in on what’s been going on here in Puerto Viejo. Let’s cover the basics!
-
The Location
F Squad is staying at the YWAM (Youth with a Mission) Puerto Viejo base on the eastern coast of Costa Rica. Our base is in the Jungle, and about 3 miles from the town of Límon (and from the Ocean!!)
-
Our Ministry
For our first week, our teams split up all around the base to do manual labor. Projects ranged from building a structure to make compost (that was my project!), to clearing acres of jungle to create space for community soccer fields & a new kitchen for the base. I gotta tell you, hacking down bamboo with a machete is my new favorite form of yard work.
In future weeks our squad will travel into town to do street evangelism in the community. For street evangelism we are planning to hold public worship times, perform skits about the Bible, pray over the community, and so much more!
-
The Need
This community is in desperate need of the Lord. About 50% of Puerto Viejo is unreached. Many have only heard the New Testament, and as beautiful as the New Testament is, it is not the whole story. When the Word of God is introduced to a community, that community is transformed. Our base hosts Rasta and Elsi have a deep desire to see this place transformed by the gospel, and that desire has spread like wildfire within our squad.
