Up until this point most of the promotion and support raising I have done has been purely financial. Which of course is important, and it is still my goal to leave fully funded, however there are so many other ways to contribute. I also know that it isn’t always possible to offer financial support. So I decided to put together a list of ways you can support my World Race that aren’t financial. There is so much more involved in leaving to do missions for 11 months than the fundraising that are just as important.
1. Prayer and Encouragement
Just letting me know you’re rooting for me means so much. I’m a very independent person and I like being able to do things on my own but I also know sometimes I really can’t manage it all. A simple “Hey, you got this, it’ll all work out!” is all it takes. Or just text me at any given time and tell me what day of the week it is. Chances are I have no idea.
2. Help out with a fundraiser
Have craft skills? Like to bake cookies? You might not have dollars but giving skills and time mean just as much. Got a talent? I am thinking of putting together a variety show fundraiser this summer so if you’re interested in performing or just helping organize the thing let me know!
3. Promotion
Know someone who is getting married or is in a wedding and needs their dress or suit altered? Send them my way! Like and share my World Race statuses. You never know you you know or who they know that might be able to support me. And the action of sharing alone means the world. I once got choked up because someone shared one of my “Tailoring for Thailand” statuses. Its a little thing but it makes the whole process feel way less daunting and reminds me that I am not in this by myself.
4. Prayer
Have I said this yet? To me it is the most important support of all. Pray for my squad, for the countries I’m going to be serving in, for safety, for sanity, for strength, connections, and anything else you can think of.
5. Gear
Got gear you’re not using? Or have expertise/advice on the kind of gear I should get? Holler!
6. Speak to me in Spanish
Ok I know this is probably a little random and weird but I’ll be spending 3 months in Central America and I’d like to have basic communication skills. Despite endless highschool and college Spanish my vocab is shot and even if I can follow the general thread of conversation or every 5th word that doesn’t help me much for being able to respond. I might stare at you clueless and say “que?” for a really long time but bear with me, I’ll get there.
7. Media
This kind of goes hand in hand with promotion but if you have any photography or graphic design skills you’d be willing to lend it would be welcome.
8. Advice/Expertise
Have any advice about missions? Been to any of the countries I’m going to? Let’s get coffee! Tell me what I should know, where I should eat/visit, and any insights you have on reaching the people there. Know someone I should get in contact with? Do share!
9. Social Activities
I have this bad habit of hermitting inside my apartment when I have a lot of work to get done and then I start going crazy. I love hanging out with humans. It doesn’t have to be anything fancy. Want to watch a movie and color? I’m so down.
10. Prayer
But for reals.
Thank you so much for reading! Thank you to all who have supported me in all kind of ways thus far. I am so excited for this adventure and so thankful to have all of you be a part of it!
