Today is the start of my last semester of high school. Ever. It hasn’t hit me yet, but I know it will soon. So many things are changing, and I want to stay real and stay in the moment. I want to focus on one day at a time, and not worry about the next until it comes because today has enough troubles of its own (Matthew 6:34). One of my New Years resolutions (warning: it’s super basic and mainstream) is to be present and intentional about my time; and that’s what my sweatshirt says. It’s really important to me to not always be on my phone and checking social media; and if you know me you know that I live for making memories. That’s pretty much my goal in almost every situation I’m in. I’m a very sentimental person and I love to look back and remember the different memories that I have made with various people, both friends and strangers alike. That’s why I love photography, because it’s a moment captured in time. You can never get that one moment back, ever. A picture captures that moment, so you can look back and smile upon it. So this semester, between all of the trips I will be taking, the smoothies I will be making for my job, and the essays I will be writing, I want to “be here now” and focus on what’s happening in front of me.

To the future Annie: whatever happens this semester, remember to focus on what’s happening now. Don’t dwell on the past and don’t itch for the future. You will regret it if you try to make time faster because high school is not finished yet, but it will be soon. Don’t rush it.
