Hello!  We have been in Cambodia for a little over a month now, but here is a blog I forgot about from my time in Lesotho:

December 2016

For the next month and a half my team is in Lesotho.  We are working with an orphanage called Seed of Love, there are 29 beautiful children here and we have the honor of hanging out with and loving on them (and the less glamorous part, helping them with their chores).  It is summer in Lesotho so all the kids are on break from school, and they are home all day but somehow they manage to stay entertained without iPhones, TV or any sort of electronics really.  So here is a list of some of the things they do for fun, and next time your kids complain about being bored here are some suggestions:

  • Roll around tires, really they just roll tires around.  There are about 8 tires laying around on the property and at any given time you can probably see 3 of the littles just running around pushing a tire
  • Strips of fabric, there are about 2 dozen little strips of fabric floating around the home, and this is a fun toy because it can be used in a multitude of ways, tie it around your head as a headband, tie a bunch of them together to make a hula skirt, tie several together to create a rope and then tether your friend that is acting like a cow to a tree
  • Mud Pies! This is super simple, it doesn’t require hardly any materials but can keep your kids occupied for hours, Play Doh is overrated, just give them a spoon, bowl and some water and send them to the back yard.
  • Aggravate the cow, now I know most of you probably do not have a cow but you should really consider, they are great lawnmowers
  • Collect sticks and bang on every surface you can find
  • Sing songs
  • Make dances, these kids have amazing rhythm and love to do these step dances that are super complicated and no matter how long I watch I can’t figure it out or keep up
  • Go through the trash and make toys out of it, the kids constantly go through our garbage so be careful what you throw away (one of the girls wrote one of us a letter and they accidentally threw it out and the girl found it and was very upset, oops)
  • Climb a tree and pee off it
  • Race each other, this was so cute, one morning I went outside to see all the kids had organized these running races, it was honestly the cutest thing.  They were divided up into dorm A and dorm B and were cheering for their person it was just adorable

I just wanted to give a huge shout-out to all my supporters and people that have made it possible for me to be here.  I should have a blog soon about Cambodia!
