How often do you pray a safe prayer? What is a safe prayer you ask? A safe prayer is what you usually pray when you want to keep living in a comfortable place in your spiritual walk. When you are okay with where you are because you are safe and usually you are still the one making the decisions in your life. I have prayed many safe prayers in my walk with God, and I have lived comfortably and loved it because as an adult I am prone to deciding for myself. After realizing how comfortable I was living I decided that I would rather live the life that God wants for me than to live comfortably. So last summer I made the decision to live in God’s will, and with that came my first dangerous prayer. I say it was dangerous because when I chose to pray that big prayer I knew that God would take it seriously and that He would answer me.
This was my prayer, “ABBA Father, this trip I am going on is a big decision, and I know that if I want it to be then it can be life changing. I don’t want to live a mediocre Christian life anymore; I want to be completely on fire for you and your plans for me. So I ask that you take my life and mold me, change my heart for you and for your glory. That you might show me what it means to live inside your love and that through me your will might be done. Have your way with me oh Lord.”
This may seem like an okay prayer, but I knew when I told God this I knew that He would take it and go with it. And now that I’m almost done the eighth month of the race I can see how much God has changed me and I’m super glad that I prayed that prayer. It has been a hard journey and I’ve learnt a lot, He has changed me in big ways. I now know that God loves me with all my heart, and I am learning to accept others love for me because of His love. I am learning to be fearless in evangelism and to speak out the wisdom that God gives me. I have let go of a lot of my bondage and God is continually bringing up things in my life that I need to work on and give over to Him.
When you choose to pray dangerously you can expect that God will change you and He will turn your comfortable world upside down. He wants you to be all that you can be because He sees the potential in all of us. But He has given us free will to choose the life we want to live. Do we want to live safely or do we want to experience all that God has for us? We can’t ever obtain all that God has for us if we don’t step out and ask, but don’t ask if you don’t want to be challenged.
