Last night I could not sleep because my hands were itching
so much due to dryness. So after playing
with the kids for a little while I went to the pharmacy to get some
hydrocortisone cream. As I was searching
the aisles for the cream I heard, “Annie, what are you doing here?” I turned around to see two of the girls from
the shelter with the director’s daughter.
It turns out they were having a special treat by going to get ice
cream. They were very excited to see me
outside of the shelter and I was surprised to hear someone call out my
name.
After searching the aisles in vain I decided to check out
the pharmacy counter. One counter said,
“Self Prescribe” and the other said, “Prescriptions”. I stood in line for, “Self-Prescribe” then
told the pharmacist what I needed. She
typed out a prescription then took the cream from a back shelf. The pharmacist then proceeded to take out a
wire cage. She put the cream in the cage
along with the prescription then put a lock on the box. I walked up to the front register where the
cashier unlocked the box to ring up my order.
It was quite a process considering the fact that I could walk into any
pharmacy or grocery store in the States and just pick up a tube off the shelf
(My favorite pharmacy to visit is Findley’s pharmacy in Somerset, PA. Findley’s is a great store with amazing
service.)
This afternoon I went back to play with the kids. It was a pretty uneventful afternoon until I
was feeding one of the toddlers. He took
one bit of food then vomited all over the front of me. The best part; I was able to simply hand him
over to one of the Mommas who cleaned him up.
Have I mentioned what amazing servants the Mommas are?
