My teammate, Brienna, has decided to leave the World Race and is on her way to Kenya right now.
In order to send her off our team drove to Johannesburg Saturday. In the evening we were able to get tickets to
see the musical, The Lion King. The native
actors and actresses added their own native tongue to the script. The clicking sounds of Xhosa were heard along
with Afrikans and Swahili. The dances and music brought back memories of
Mozambique and Swaziland.
Jo’Burg Sunset:

Sunday we went
to a local Lion Park where we were able to pet lion cubs. I was a little nervous to pet the wild
animals especially when I read the sign, “Lions are wild animals. They may scratch or bite. Enter at your own risk.” I went to the sleeping cubs rather than the
playful cubs. The cubs were rather lazy,
but they did take a nibble out of both Brienna and Josh.

After petting the cubs we were able to feed
giraffe. The giraffe would lean over the
fence with their long necks and stick out their very long tongues to acquire
the food pellets. The rough tongues had
the sandpaper feel of a cats tongue, but it was much more firm and
slobbery.

For our final team dinner with
Brienna we went to a restaurant named Carnivore. The waiters periodically brought to our table
a sword with skewered meat that had been roasted over a fire. By the end of the “Beast Feast” we had tried:
impala, gemsbok, wildebeest, ostrich, venison, and crocodile.

The weekend was so fun that most of the time I was not
thinking about the fact that Brienna would be leaving. She has added so much to our team and
definitely will be missed. Brienna is a
get it done type of girl so I will miss her organization, common sense, and
steadiness. For now I am the only girl
on Team LO with three guys, so we shall see how that goes.

Saturday I did think a lot about my good friend Annie Minnich,
because it was her wedding day. I felt it was very appropriate that we went to
see The Lion King, because that is one of her favorite musicals. If I could have picked one day out of the
year to be home it would have been Saturday. So I am looking forward to hearing about the
wedding and seeing pictures. The kids at
the shelter helped me to send Annie and Garath a little message…
