This morning we enjoyed a small English church service help by Jacob at his house. It was refreshing to hear the message and songs in English and nice also to finish us the service in under 2 hours.
After church I helped Maria to make a lunch of beans, potatoes and meat (yay-no rice) to feed about 30 orphans. Jaco drove and picked up some orphans then we met up at the beach. Despite the fact that they live within 20 minutes of the beach, for many of the orphans it was their first time seeing the ocean. The wind was strong, so the air was cold, but the kids seemed to have a good time splashing around in the water. The tide was out and it goes out very far here, probably over 100 yards. There were many boats sitting on the sand that had previously been floating in the water. So, the water was rather shallow, but I don’t think the kids would have gone out deeper than their waists. On shore, some boys taught me one of the dances, but I could not pick up on the words to the song. Anyway they had a good time laughing at my mispronunciations. When they had finished swimming they all went to the pile of clothes and grabbed whatever they found. Many kids left the beach wearing a different outfit than the one they came with, but they did not seem to mind.
