Today is Sunday.  We did not have any church service until the afternoon, so we decided to do a service of our own this morning.  We gathered in the house to sing, pray, and share scripture together.  I looked outside and saw blue skies, so I convinced everyone to climb up to do some worship on the top of the mountain.  I have never been to a worship service with such a beautiful view.  The wind kept us cool as the sun kissed our cheeks.  We sang, prayed, and read scripture (Including Psalm 121.
It was so hot this afternoon, but we told the kids that we would be playing futbol and painting nails instead of going to the river.  I was in the sun for about 20 minutes and I started to burn.  The boys played futbol through the heat, while the girls painted nails and played frisbee.  After about an hour of heat the kids started begging to go to the river.  What a great place to live, about 50 yards from the futbol field was a perfect little river to cool off in.
One of the smallest boys that is four years old has been really shy around us.  He stands back to observe while the kids are playing and has not really talked to any of us.  I was sitting on the bank of the river watching the kids jump off of a tree when he came over to me and brushed against me.  He stood near me for a little while then leaned up against me.  Then he gave me a quick smile and sat down on my lap.  Next thing I know I had turned into his lazy boy and he was lounging away.  I was touched that he would feel safe and trust me enough to sit with me.
For the kids service this evening we did what has become for us a typical service.  We start by reviewing and learning a new part of the Lord’s prayer.  Then we do a skit or game followed by a craft of drawing a picture that goes with the theme.  Then we sing songs in Spanish or English.  Their favorite song is Ah Tootie Tat; one that I learned in Mrs. Shaffer’s kindergarten class this past year-Thank you Mrs. Shaffer!   Then we play Pato-Pato-Gonzo (Duck-Duck-Goose).  Finally we end in prayer.  Talia, Bri, and I are the only ones that are conversational in Spanish so we end up doing a lot of the leading.  I would much rather be in the back with the kids, so I have been stretched through the children’s programs.
