Knowing that you’re going away for 11 months is a strange feeling. Knowing what you’re going to be missing makes you appreciate those things more in the moment, so with only 13 short days left until I leave for 11 months, I’m memorizing the sounds of the giggles of my nieces, soaking in all the baby snuggles with my nephew, throwing the ball for my dog a few extra times, being intentional to spend time with my family and my friends. Yes, I will be back by this time next year, but I will still desperately miss these little moments while I’m gone. But I hope that this is something that doesn’t fade – I don’t want to have to leave for 11 months to remind me to appreciate these little moments every day. So, allow me leaving for 11 months be a reminder for you today, to appreciate the little things, especially during this holiday season. You never know when it could be your last with a loved one. Don’t worry so much about giving or getting the perfect present, but rather just BE present. I know, I know, it’s cliche. But I promise you that’s it true – you will cherish the time you spend together more than any gift. So, keep your phone in your pocket and not in your hand, read that book to your niece/nephew/kid even though it’s the long one, play that game you’ve played with them a hundred times and have their perspective that somehow it never gets old, listen to your parents’ and grandparents’ stories, ask questions, get to know each other even better, be intentional, and share love. That is the best gift we can give each other.
A few updates…there’s been a slight change in my route for next year. Due to logistical and ministry reasons, my squad is no longer going to Myanmar, but we will be going to Indonesia instead. So, that shifts my countries/months just a bit…my route now looks like this – Côte d’Ivoire, Ghana, Togo, Thailand, Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, Argentina, Chile, Bolivia, and Peru.
I’m about half way funded so far – would you consider partnering with me? Truly any amount helps. Thank you SO much to those of you who have already partnered with me. I have been honored and humbled by your generosity, and the fact that you apparently believe that I am worthy of this calling – and even more so to God, who has called me to this, and He has only continued to affirm that to me through your support, so thank you from the bottom of my heart.
I hope you all have a wonderful Christmas with your loved ones. And remember to enjoy those little moments.
