Hello from the
mountains in Peru!!! I will have a video blog from here on
Monday. Every day is new with
adventure. Most of the mornings, I wake
up to go hiking and find a quiet spot to do devotions. And almost every morning, there is a
beautiful sunrise where we are able to clearly see the mountains and the peaks. The scenery is just incredible…better than a
postcard. The people here are beautiful
and super friendly. They smile and say
hello every time they see one of us.
It’s a small town on the side of a mountain, so the population in the
town we are working at is only about 1,000, but there is lots of ministry work
for us to do.

During the day, Kim and my ministry time has been spent
hanging out with a girl named Pilar and her family. We will have a video on Kim and Pilar next
week. Kim stopped at her house the first
day we went out to do ministry. Pilar’s
sister Saundra, was playing out near the street and Kim went over to talk to
her. Eventually she met Pilar, who is 14
and that’s when the story begins….

I came along with Kim to film some footage and have been
hanging out with the family ever since.
Last week, Kim was sick, so I went alone with a translator and worked
with Pilar on her English lessons. (we
usually work on that and go over any questions of the Bible she has) I didn’t know how this would go over at first
since Pilar is such a quiet girl and I had only gone to her house one day
before this, but after making a few mistakes in my Spanish grammar and getting
her to giggle, things just seemed to flow.
After being there for a couple of hours, her mom served us lunch. Eduardo, the translator, was funny and goes,
“we need to eat all of this and I hope it’s not guinea pig”. (I was praying for the same thing) We had a really good meal that was some kind
of vegetable soup (since the soil is so fertile, they have a harvest here many
time during the year and have lots of veggies) and broiled potatoes, sautéed
onions, and I think it was cheddar cheese sprinkled over the top of that. Since then she has also had us over for
breakfast, (which she added lots of sugar to our coffee before serving us 🙂
and for lunch, and continues to want feed us whenever we are over. When I see her and hear her ask, when the
next time we will be over there is, and how are we, it reminds me a lot of
mom’s in general. Being thankful that
someone is taking the time out of their schedule to spend and pour into their
kid, but also making sure that someone else’s kid is being taken care of as
well.

Please keep us in your prayers as we are trying to connect
on a deeper level with Pilar and her mom.
I kind of feel that overall her mom just wants some female friendships
too, so please pray that will we be able to connect her with the right ladies
before we leave. And like I said, we will have a story on all of this next week,
so you will actually have a visual on this, plus be able to see the beauty of PERU!!!
