Can we get so caught up in every day life that we lose sight of why we even started doing what we were doing to begin with? What did you dream of initially and where are you now?
Why did you start? Why did any of us start to do or pursue anything?
If there is one thing I am absolutely positive of it is this: God likes dreamers and He wants you to be a dreamer. Imagination doesn’t scare God, creativity doesn’t frighten Him and dreaming does not upset His heart in no way, shape, or form. Just DREAM. And the next day dream some more and after that day keep dreaming.
When our heart is set upon His face and we dream it’s a lethal combination against the enemy. I believe that dreams aren’t just childish made up fantasies because when we align our hearts with His, every dream that flows from that place is destiny.
Looking back throughout the Bible it’s obvious that God is in favor of dreams and using a bunch of dreamers. Just a little tid bit:
- Solomon had a dream where God appeared to Him and said “whatever you want, ask Me” and the Lord gave it! Dreams equip you.
- Oh and Joseph was a dreamer – He lived by His dreams and He was hated for them by his own family but he always remembered the dream, He knew it was God (Genesis 37:5). Dreams mark your calling.
- God spoke to Jacob in a dream and affirmed that in his seed all the families of the earth would be blessed and that in turned fueled Jacob to keep going (Gen 28). Dreams encourage you.
- Joseph, the one who would be Mary’s husband ,who was already impregnated with the Son of God in her womb, was visited by an angel in a dream that told him to not be afraid, to take Mary as his wife. That encounter, that dream gave him the confirmation to trust God in the process. He looked after Jesus like he was his own because he remembered the promise that came in that dream, that this would be the Son of God who would save the world. Dreams strengthen you.
- And let’s not forget when John was seeking the Lord and saw what we know as Revelation. We could go on and on about dreamers. Dreams show you the unseen.
Even in today’s time and age we can see dreamers rising up. Someone that I always admire for his dream was the gentle man we all know as Martin Luther King Jr. He was confident in his dream long before he saw any evidence of it coming true. He never forgot that dream either. He lived for that dream, breathed for it. I want to dream like he did. Dreams fuel you.
I say all this to say, keep dreaming and don’t forget why you started; don’t forget your dream that the Lord has given you. So many times we can get busy and caught up in the “wake up, go to work, come home & make dinner, watch tv, go to bed” life that we live years without dreaming. More than anything that breaks my heart in every way. I’m convinced dreamers teamed up with God’s vision can change the world. The GOD in YOU can change the world through the manifestation of the dreams that Holy Spirit deposits in YOU. Dreamers operate in faith not in logistics and circumstantial factors. They simply cannot accept what their current surroundings tell them, they have to believe for more.
I don’t know about you but I want to dream more and I don’t want to ever forget why I started what I am doing. This time last year, I forgot why I started. There wasn’t gross sin (whatever that is) and I was still pursuing Him but I let my current surroundings tell my dreams and purpose what to do rather than the opposite. It was a hard time and I struggled to keep believing in those dreams He had shared with me because I had turned off faith and turned towards facts (please don’t do that – it doesn’t feel good and you just get stuck). Then one day I just made a choice in my mind that enough was enough and I wanted to dream again. Every time my mind wanted to turn to circumstantial factors I took it captive and said “NO. DREAM!”
So whoever you are reading this I charge you to dream and never stop. Have childlike faith, pursue the impossible, and every day ask God, “what is YOUR heart dreaming of today?” You’ll find yourself dreaming that the word orphan would no longer exist. You may dream of AIDS be completely erased from the continent Africa. Or you’ll dream of human trafficking being obliterated off the earth and LOVE sweeping through each brothel. Maybe you’ll dream of your city not having any violence in its streets. You may dream of your WHOLE family being saved and in love with Jesus. Who knows what your dreams will be and that is the beauty of it!
JUST DREAM.
