Alright, Month 6 is finished, and now I’m on to Month 7. One thing I am continuing to learn is the value of processing each month and figuring out what I’ve learned. I have learned so much each month, but I feel that this month was FILLED with learning about God’s truth and how He works in me.
At the beginning of this month I felt like I was in Bible School. We had devotions each morning, which were filled with 14 people who all love Christ and want to learn more about Him. I began to study and discuss the Bible with our Mocambique friends. I learn from other peoples’ life stories and seeing how God has worked in them.
I have really enjoyed seeing how God works this month. Often I would read something one day and then the next day learn it from someone else. Many times the story or verse would directly relate to the situation that we were in or to the people with whom we were talking. I was constantly asking God to speak through me to encourage the people we met. It was awesome to see how God would show up and how the words that I spoke were able to encourage pastors, elders and people I knew nothing about. Many times we were able to get to know the people and their stories, but other times we just went into a place and shared and then had to leave.

I also learned so much from a couple who lived and worked at Rivoni Ministries. Their names are Nelson and Tina! They were at the mission the whole time we were there and they felt like family. It was really hard to leave the whole family. Tina and Nelson are such loving people and I also really enjoyed playing with their three young boys. From the moment we arrived I felt like I was at home and accepted as family. Tina was willing to let me ‘help’ but mostly watch the food preparation (cooking food in Africa takes a lot of arm muscle; it’s tiring!). I learned to love people more simply by watching her interact with others. I learned from their openness, realness and how they joyfully followed after Christ.
I am going to miss them so much and all the others at the mission. I very much enjoyed living in real Africa! During our last week a few of us went to the water well to pump water for people. Most of our neighbours do not have running water or electricity. Not only did we get our upper body workout for the day, we also gave the women a break from pumping water and a reason to laugh. Even though we couldn’t speak the same language, I pray that I showed those women God’s love!
So long Mocambique, it’s been real!
This month I will be near Cape Town, South Africa, working with street children. It should be challenging and different! Please continue to pray 🙂
