Hello from India!
On January 2nd, I left for the airport at 3:30am…at 6:30am I got on the plane and flew to NYC…at 10:50pm my squad and I got on a Qatar Air flight to Qatar…after those 12hours we got off the plane and half and hour later we jumped on another plane for 4 hours to Hyderabad, India and arrived at 5:00am on January 4th. So that is where I am now, Hyderabad!!! We made it π
For the first 3 nights we stayed at a Catholic compound and ate rice with spicy sauce, fresh papaya and more for every meal! I’ve only had dried papaya before, which I like…but fresh papaya is TREMENDOUS!!!!
The weather here is wonderful. In the 20s C. India is quite different from Canada, especially eastern Canada. It is EXTREMELY fast paced. There are like 20 lanes of traffic and only 2 lines actually painted on the road. On our third day in India my team of John, Lauren, Lindsey, Evan, Allison and I ventured across the road. WOWZA…they make it look so easy. You have to weave your way between ‘lanes’ of cars, motorcyles, rick-shaws, bicycles and at one place buffalo! It was so much fun…it gave my the same feeling in my stomach as when I go on a rollercoaster! So great! Then we road in a rick-shaw! So awesome π Three of us in the back. Great fun, although we didn’t find the place where we were supposed to go, but that was no problem. Everything is so foreign to me here. I like it. However, all the signs in this city are in English. Cool.
Up until today it has been “Launch” here on the World Race. We have been getting adjusted to the time change (11 and a half hours or something), learning about the culture, worship sessions and hearing from AIM staff about past experiences on how to improve our trip.
Tonight I will be taking a bus to Vijawada with my team (Team Fugee) and Team SOR 11 to work at an orphanage there for the rest of the month. We will be helping out the IndianChristian couple who run the orphanage. We will most likely be running children’s programs and reaching out to the other people in that city. YEAH π I’m quite excited to be surrounded by children although it will probably be tiring.
I hope I will be able to update while I’m there…but you never know.
So long! Thanks for reading π
Anne
