Myanmar.  I didn’t even know what this country was till I signed up for the race to be honest.  This place has actually been such a nice surprise though.  We had quite the travel adventure to get here, but once we made it, I learned how sweet and honest the Burmese people are.

This month my team is working with two other world race teams at Myanmar Mission College.  It is located in Hlegu, Myanmar, which is right outside Yangon.  Myanmar Mission College is exactly what it sounds like.  It’s a school to become a missionary.  There aren’t any books about Christianity in Burmese, so the students here must learn English, in order to further their understanding and knowledge of the gospel.  Our main job this month to serve has been to teach English to the first year students.  We also have been in charge of preaching in chapel every day, and doing odd jobs around the campus as needed.

This month has been a little bit of a culture shock as we are now back living in the “bush”, where bucket showers are our favorite hobby, and lizards are our roommates.  This month has also been harder mentally as the excitement of the race has worn off since we are at the half way point. Still despite, the roughing it again, it has been refreshing to be back out where people live so simply.

God has been teaching me this month how to rely on Him more and actually act out in faith.  I have learned that when you don’t have much, you are forced to depend on God more which allows Him to reveal His faithfulness.  I’ve learned that this is a hard concept for a lot of American believers because back home we fill our lives with material things, and money to fix a lot of our everyday problems instead of just turning to God and trusting Him to work.

PS – sorry there are no pictures this month my phone is broken so waiting on the Lord to fix it – learning that dependence lesson the hard way cause God knows my stubborn self can’t learn anything the easy way
