This month in Malaysia has looked a little different from previous months. Instead of having a set host ministry as usual, we were asked to do something called “Ask the Lord.” Basically, we have been spending time asking God what He wants us to do in Malaysia — and then doing it. God has shown up so much in this month, and He really has spoken to our team and guided us along the way.

We started out in the capital of Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur, for a couple days. Several of us had it on our hearts to do homeless ministry, so we made up a few goodie bags and set out to talk to some of the homeless men and women in the city.

That day, we made a friend name Barnabas. We were able to sit and talk with him, provide him with a hot meal, and help him get transportation to the hospital. Overwhelmed by the kindness that he is seldom shown, he broke down into tears when we told him we wanted to help him.

We were also able to connect with Kingdom City Church while in the city, where God opened up so many doors. We joined a group for street ministry one night and saw God move in huge ways. We also made a friend there named Radiance, who will come back into the story in a bit. ;P

For the rest of the month, our team was assigned to the province of Pahang, so we headed to the capital city, Kuantan, with absolutely no idea what we were doing or even a place to stay. We were dropped off at a bus station with our pile of bags and began searching for lodging. By some miracle, we were able to secure a place in our budget at the last minute, and after a short taxi ride, we found our new home right in the middle of a Muslim community in the Kuantan suburbs.

This house became our home base for the next week and a half as we did ministry in Kuantan. While we were there, we did prayer walks and public worship. One of my favorite moments was worshipping and proclaiming the name of Jesus right in front of the state Mosque.

We also had a lot of random moments in Kuantan that became some of my favorites. We went to a local church one morning, and after the service, the pastor told us that someone from the church was going to take us to a children’s home. And so we hopped into a van with a man who spoke no English and were taken to Rapha’s Children’s Home, a ministry for children who come from single-parent or impoverished households.

We were told that they hadn’t had Sunday school that morning so we, of course, were going to hold an impromptu Sunday school class for them.

Our last day in Kuantan, we went to the beach to do some worship, and we ended up meeting the coolest group of guys from Yemen. We taught each other some local dances and learned so much about each others’ cultures. We’re hoping to meet up with them again in Kuala Lumpur, where they promised us they will take us to a great Arab restaurant.

Although God was doing big things while we were in Kuantan, we kept praying if there was somewhere where God really wanted us. Before we arrived in Malaysia, the team leaders were asked to pray and tell the squad leaders if God gave them any words or visions about the month. With no idea what was in store for Malaysia, our team leader, Ralph, saw a vision of a prayer house in the mountains covered by forests.

After praying one night in Kuantan about where God wanted us to go next, Ralph received a phone call from our friend Radiance about a pastor she knew working in the Pahang area. And so we were connected with Pastor Philip…who runs a prayer house in the mountains!

And that is how we ended up here in Bentong, Malaysia, working with the YHWH Asia House of Prayer for All Nations. We have spent time praying, worshipping, working, and hanging out with the indigenous people.

Every morning, we wake up at 6:30 a.m. to walk up the mountain to worship and pray for the nations, and during the day, we do yard work and painting around the property.

Our time at the prayer mountain has been amazing, and I am so thankful that God led us here. For the next three days, we will be doing 72 hours of prayer and fasting for Europe, the Americas, and Asia. I’m so excited to spend quality time with God on the mountain for the next couple days, praying for the nations that He cares about so much.
