I’m sure some of you are wondering how I got to this point….let me explain.
Soooo where to start????
That’s the question
Good thing I already have the answer or lets just say what I think is the answer……
January 2009…….It all started in Swaziland, Africa in a hut with a tin roof. I still remember the night to this day. I was traveling through Southern Africa including Mozambique, Swaziland, and South Africa with a a small group of fellow students and two leaders from Nyack College. We spent two weeks during our Christmas break from school traveling through Africa learning the cultures of the people we met. That particular night it was thundering and lightening and POURING, which was highlighted by the tin roof.
We sat around talking about everything but what I remember most is being challenged to live life to the fullest….to avoid the easy road and instead take the road that was lined with the hardships of life. The road people avoid because of its sadness, uncomfortableness and pain. At that time I was unsure of what this life would look like. But that unsureness did not last long…..
Fast forward to December 2009. I was finished with college and now had a B.S. in Early Childhood Education from Nyack College. I was still unsure of where the Lord was leading me, but the desire and calling to go back overseas had never felt stronger. I had options and was looking into different opportunities but nothing was jumping out at me. It was at this point that Ben, a friend of mine, mentioned World Race to me. I had actually looked into this a few years earlier but honestly pushed it aside because I thought it was more than I could handle. Well he was familiar with the Race and knew me as well and I am thrilled that he encouraged me to pursue it.
Fast forward to April 2010. I was accepted as a participant of the World Race. YES!!! So I began writing letters to family and friends and preparing for this journey of a lifetime as well as the training camp the end of July in Gainesville, Georgia.
So starting the first week of October I am departing on an 11 month missions trip to 11 countries:
Antigua (We spend a week here for “launch”)
Guatemala
Nicaragua
Costa Rica
Philippines
Malaysia
Thailand
Cambodia
South Africa
Swaziland
Mozambique
India
In these countries we will be:
Building Churches
Evangelizing Door-To-Door
Fighting Human Trafficking
Caring For The Homeless
Teaching English In The Schools
Ministering Through Prayer
Providing Orphans With Homes
Resaching Out To Prostitutes
Feeding The Hungry
So this is the story of the beginning of my journey…….I mean I have always felt a calling to live and minister overseas at some point of my life but I never knew what this would look like. Now I have been given the opportunity….and I am excited beyond words!!!
