I’m so sorry that I’ve been a little negligent in getting my Malaysia blog up. I promise it’s coming! But in the meantime, a few announcements and thoughts.
This month we’re partnering with another team to work with Nueva Generacions, a great organization that teaches values and English to youth all around Guatemala. They also do work with impoverished families to help them improve their lives. One such project is building a home for such a family. I am part of the fundraising team which means I’ve spent this month passing out fliers, promoting coffee and our give platform. We’ve had some really exciting news that there is a company, that wishes to remain anonymous, who will match any donations to our give platform! If you would like to help us and Nueva Generacions, you can make a donation here: http://give.adventures.org/campaign.asp?campaignid=1112
If you like coffee, you can also support the cause by purchasing two or more discounted bags of coffee ($10 for the normal $12 bag, etc) online from Guate Java. 20% of your online coffee order will be donated to Nueva Generacion. Simply enter the discount code: WRMOMS at check out to receive the sale price and a discount on shipping. Please purchase the coffee by May 14th to count towards this cause! As some of you know, Guatemala is the month that our squad gets to have our Parent Vision Trips and the squad splits in two. Those of us who have parents coming will get to do ministry with them in the Antigua, Guatemala area. Unfortunately my parents won’t be here (and I look forward to seeing them in just a few short months!) which means I get to do something really cool and a little bit unusual in the World Race…
I get a bonus country.
During the Parent Vision Trip (PVT), those of us who do not have parents coming will have the opportunity to go to El Salvador and do ministry. I’m really excited to get to work with some squad mates that I either haven’t teamed up with on the race or who I’ve been on a team with in the past and to experience one more country. We get to do something the race calls ATL (Ask The Lord) ministry; which means we’ll wake up each day and chase after where God is leading us. I’ve had the opportunity to do this some in other months (such as Nepal) and am looking forward to doing it again.
Finally, you may have noticed that my team has experienced some changes. Two of our beautiful and wonderful women have returned to the states and so while I get to finish the race with the Hannahs and Ashley, we also join with two new members to form a new team to finish the last three months! We will dearly miss Alexa and Makiata, but are very excited to do life with Andrea and Logan for the rest of the race.
As always, thanks for all of your support! Hard to believe we’re back in similar time zones and that I’ll see you all in about three months.
