276.
It’s been 276 days since I left my home to launch into the unknown.
In 276 days, I’ve been to 3 different continents, spent time in 14 countries, and been on 4 different teams working with 10 different ministries. This is the kind of math that makes my head spin.
I’ve been reflecting on the past 9 months of my life and have been sifting through the different lessons that the Lord has taught me throughout this journey. It’s been hard, humbling, and nothing short of life changing. If I could only share one little nugget of truth with you from the past 276 days worth of nuggets, this would be it:
When the Lord tells you to do something, you better just do it.
Chances are, you’re going to look like a fool doing it and it won’t make much sense. Your ego will probably take a little hit in the process too. But the outcome is always worth the risk.
In John 21, Jesus appears to his disciples as they are finishing up a hard day at work. They spent all day attempting to catch fish, but came out empty-handed. Knowing this, in verse 6, Jesus said to them, “Cast the net on the right side of the boat, and you will find some.”
Did you catch that? Jesus’ solution to not catching any fish was to try the other side. I can just picture the looks on the disciples’ faces. They were fishermen as their profession and after not catching any all day, I’m sure Jesus’ simple solution received at least a few eye rolls. But they put their egos aside and dropped their nets anyways. And the result was astounding.
Verse 6 goes on to say that they cast it, and now they were not able to haul it in, because of the quantity of fish.
It’s amazing what the Lord will do when you take a step of obedience, even if it doesn’t make sense. A year ago, the Lord told me to leave my home for a year to follow Him. It seemed foolish and it definitely didn’t make sense to me. But I took a step of faith and cast my net into the vast unknown.
The result has been nothing short of incredible. God has rewarded me tenfold for taking a seemingly large leap of faith into the waters. I’ve seen lives transformed and miracles performed that I never would have experienced had I not listened to the Lord and cast my net.
It’s sometimes seems scary, intimidating, and even foolish to follow the Lord where He calls you. But the rewards- they’re worth the risk.
What is it that God is calling you to do? Will you cast your net and just do it?
