When I got back on the field – joining my team in Medellin, Colombia – I didn’t realize how quickly I’d let my heart get taken again. I fell in love immediately with the country of Colombia, the culture around me, being able to use my Spanish again to communicate with the people there, the organization we were working with, my host mom and brother, the kids at the organization, the BRILLIANCE of the colors all around me… EVERYTHING! When we had to pack up and leave 8 days after I had arrived, my heart sunk. I was so involved so quickly! Simply put… one week just wasn’t enough.
We were working with a YWAM (Youth With A Mission) organization there in Medellin that caters to housing and raising kids who come from broken backgrounds or sometimes are completely orphaned. We also helped with a feeding program for the people of the streets or very poor living in the center of Medellin. Both were wonderful and amazing opportunities!
Our location
– at home and around the city of Medellin –
We were living in an apartment with one of the sweetest ladies I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, Silia, and her incredibly awesome son, Alejandro. They were so hospitable and one of the reasons Medellin felt like home so quickly!

Our Ministry
– pictures of the kids and the people we were blessed to work with –
Some of the things we would do with the kids at the center included: games with the kids at the center where they lived; trips to the park to play futbol or play in the park; trips the library for computer time; walks to/from school; Bible class; help them with homework; competitions with oreos and other group games; movies; cooking time in the kitchen with John and Norma; and SO much more!
On Thursday nights one of the leaders at the center, Rosita, leads a feeding program for those who live in poor government housing or out on the streets. Pictures from our night at that are at the end of this section.

Our new friends
We were fortunate enough to make some new friends in Colombia – some, Colombians… some germans… one Aussie. Had a great time at ministry and outside of ministry getting to know them!
Other views of Colombia
We also were fortunate enough to take an afternoon and go see a BEAUTIFUL town called Guatape. Guatape is the most colorful town in Colombia (or… at least that was my understanding from our tour) and probably one of the most beautiful and colorful towns I’ve ever seen! We also climbed a HUGE boulder to see it and the surrounding lakes from the height of 740 stairs! Quite the workout.

I already can’t wait to go back to Colombia some day… but for now, keeping my heart and my mind on our ministry in Ecuador!
