Month 9 is upon us and we are now in Ukraine. We entered in this new country refreshed after a time of rest at our 8 month debrief. Here is a little bit about the country we are calling home this month.
About Ukraine
Ukraine is our fourth and final country that we will be working in while in Eastern Europe. It lies at the northwest end of the Black Sea, and is bordered by Russia to the east, Belarus to the north, Poland to the northwest, Slovakia and Hungary to the west, and Romania to the south west and south, with Moldova in between.
Most of the country (the central and eastern portions) was formerly a part of Russian Empire; after the October Revolution and the Civil War, the entire country, known as the Ukrainian Soviet Socialist Republic, was a part of the Soviet Union. Ukraine is the second-largest country in Europe.
This month we are living in the city of Rivne which is located in Western Ukraine. Rivne is a historic city in western Ukraine and the historical region of Volhynia. It is the administrative center of the Rivne Oblast (province).
Our ministry focus is to plan and lead an English camp. We are spending the first two weeks preparing lessons, and handing out flyers. Next week we will have the English camp which includes having a weekend out of the city for an English learning retreat. Another part of our ministry is to spend time with members of the local church by attending bible studies with them and going on outing with them during the week.
How you can pray for us:
That our time in Ukraine would be fruitful
That many students would come to the camp and that their hearts would be open to hearing the gospel
At the end of the month we will be traveling to Poland in order to fly out of Warsaw, pray for traveling mercies during the last week of May
Pray for the missionary families that have been displaced by the crisis in Ukraine. Ask God to protect them from discouragement and to make clear the next steps He has.
We only have 11 more weeks to go on the race; pray that I and the rest of my team and squad would finish strong and stay focused on the purpose of why God has us on the race.
God bless!
