Exciting title, right? I know.

I'm having a bit of beginners blogging block. So I'm just going to write a wee bit about my journey. You know, to get things started.

How I Came Into Knowledge About The World Race

It's amazing what you can learn from people you don't know on Instagram. Sometimes I see pictures I like and follow a person. Then my feed is filled with pretty things. One guy I follow uses #storyportrait in many of his pictures. He uses the hashtag to tell a story about the person whose portrait he took. Back in the summer, he posted a storyportrait of a girl who just finished The World Race. 11 countries in 11 months.

Wait. What?!

Of course I had to look into that ASAP. I'd been feeling the tug to go back overseas for awhile. I'd been praying for a clear path, unsure of where God's plan would put me. As much as I love Portland, I know that it's time to move on.

Phone Tag

In my quest to get more information on the race, I played phone tag for a few weeks. Then I talked with my mom on the phone hashing through everything associated with me going on the race. The next day, I applied. Before I even started the application process, I was categorizing my belongings into 'garage sale' and 'store at mom's house.'

I was ready.

The Simple Life

A huge part of the race is living simply, in a Luke 10 manner. I will have a backpack packed for about 10 days. And I will be gone for 11 months. I'm sure that by the end of 11 months, I will never again want to see the contents of my pack.

However, I am so excited to be following God's will. As racers we are going to be a physical representation of God's love to people in 11 different countries. I cannot wait.
