Our last leg of the trip was a bus ride from Nicaragua to Honduras. It was a long ride, but a great time to catch up on journaling. I am going to do my best to keep a good journal this year, so as to remember all that happens in this adventure and to share it with you! And it was a good time to rest as well. All the while I was trying to look out the window as much as possible. It is amazingly beautiful! All the mountains and volcanoes, and vegetation make the landscape quite a site to see. Very much different from that of Michigan!

The border crossing from Nicaragua to Honduras went well. A little waiting, but that is something that we will get very used to. We entertained ourselves with a few games to pass the time. The rest of the ride I watched the interesting architecture of houses and buildings. But my favorite thing was seeing people laying outside in their hammocks! Reminds me of my time in Mexico, and makes me excited to use my hammock during the Race!

We arrived at our final destination, Tizatillo in Tegucigalpa, a few hours later. It is called Zion’s Gate Ministries. It is a really cool place! It’s an old infamous night club, turned refuge for buys formerly involved with drugs, alcohol and the like. Tony, the man that started the ministry, and who is in charge, is wonderful. What a huge heart he has for these boys and the city!

We got settled in our tents. Some of the Honduran boys helped us because it started to rain and was very windy. They served us a great lunch and then we learned more about the ministry. There is another group here that is an Adventures in Mission Passport group. I was able to talk to some of them afterwards. I met one of the guys, named Nolan, from the group, and found out he is from a city close to my hometown. It somehow came up that I went to Calvin College. He got so excited, jumped up and down and yelled. And then he jumped on me and gave me a huge hug, because he will be going to Calvin starting in the fall. But then he got embarrassed and ran away to compose himself. It made me laugh so hard! And it was a fantastic welcome! Not to mention the fact that I am so excited for him to study at such a great college! How awesome to meet a fellow Knight in a place I have never been! And to be working at a ministry together!

The night ended with a great dinner and some wonderful worship with everyone staying at the property. It was a big happy family – our squad, the Passport group, Tony and his wife, the other workers, and the boys! An amazing way to end a long day!
