Hi friends! My first blog prompt is why I’m going on the race, so here’s a little bit of background 🙂

I first heard about World Race Gap Year sophomore year when a friend of a friend was fundraising for her trip. I had already been thinking about doing a gap year before college because I wasn’t sure what God was calling me specifically to do with my life. God has blessed me with the intelligence and opportunity to go to college, but I don’t feel prepared enough, spiritually and mentally, to do that yet. Most of the Christian programs I had looked at were very expensive and only focused on your growth in your relationship with the Lord (which isn’t necessarily a bad thing). But when I looked more into the World Race, the thing that stood out to me was how missions-focused it is. The whole thing about going on the Race is that you get to learn more about God and grow in Him, while serving Him on the mission field. It’s not just you and focusing on your self; it’s living out what He calls all believers to do in Matthew 28:19 (“Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”) while also seeking His direction for your life.

I had never felt really called to do long-term missions before, but I know that the Great Commission is for all believers, so I will serve Him wherever He puts me. And who knows? Maybe He’ll direct me to missions while on the Race. Or maybe He’ll give me a firm foundation in Him as I follow a major/career that He sets before me. Either way, I know that going on the World Race is the next chapter in His plan for my life and I couldn’t be more excited for what He has in store for me 🙂
