I have always been a dreamer and a schemer; always coming up with a new dream and a scheme of how to achieve it. I have had more dreams then I dare to remember or even count but, the one unwavering passion that I have always had is Africa. I have wanted to go to Africa ever since a missionary came to tell us about it in my Sunday school class when I was around three. The desire to go has only gotten stronger with time. This place I have never been has changed the course of my life. I have given up countless ideas all because they pale in comparison to the dream of being the hands and feet of Jesus in Africa. I know that I have little to offer this place that I have dreamed of going for so long, but I have a feeling that it has much to offer me. Since graduating High School I have tried multiple avenues to get there. Time and time again Jesus has said wait—until now. This time, when I started to pursue the crazy adventure of the World Race, He let me continue with my plans. I know that Africa is just one leg of the race but traveling the world to serve people fits into so many of my crazy wanderlust ideas.
My passion to go and serve is just one part of the call. I feel like as Christians we are all called to live a life of missions and servant hood.
In Mark 1:29-31 Jesus comes and heals a member of Simon’s family.
31. So He came and took her by the hand and lifted her up, and immediately the fever left her. And she served him.
I love this passage because as soon as she was healed she got up to serve Jesus. I was struck by her natural reaction to serve Jesus after her healing. I think that servant hood should be our reaction to the healing of our sins. I have tried to live my life with this mentality, although I am not always successful.
With that said, I feel like it is my natural reaction to serve God’s people while pursuing my love of adventure.
