It has been about a week since finals week ended, and about two weeks since I was actually done with my penultimate semester. All of my grades have been submitted and viewed. Christmas and my dad’s birthday have already both passed. So now what?
As the overly ambitious person that I am, I set some goals and things that I would like to accomplish over winter break. I personally feel like I have yet to accomplish anything, but upon reflection, I have managed to achieve some things. I have managed to finish reading a book (as of earlier today) and I bought most of my gear (my backpack, sleeping bag & pad, tent with rain fly, footprint, and fanny pack). My reading goal for the break is to finish reading Surprise the World by Michael Frost and also a free-reading book (Feed by M.T. Anderson). I finished Surprise the World, and I am very excited to incorporate the tools that Frost proposes for leading a life on mission (B.EL.L.S.), in the coming calendar year. With Feed, I just want to let my mind wander away from the constantly-moving reality that comes with being in university, living in Manhattan, and preparing for the World Race. So far, it is an interesting (and satirical) conception of what the future looks like through the eyes of a teenage boy, Titus.
Another major thing that I have managed to accomplish so far, is buying my gear, or at least the big stuff. After doing some research, I realized how important a footprint and a rain fly for my tent would be (to protect the bottom of my tent and prevent any water from entering my tent’s roof, respectively). I did manage to find a tent that comes with a rain fly, so the only extra thing that I had to buy for my tent was the footprint. I decided to go with a backpack that is a bit smaller than the recommended size (I’m a small human being and I don’t want to take too much with me), at 65L. I did, however, buy everything else pretty much as recommended (tent for two, sleeping bag for multiple seasons, a sleeping pad, and a headlamp).
As I said before, for the break I have created some goals so that by the time the semester comes back around, I will have actually done something. I have created goals, plans to achieve longer-term goals, and resolutions for the upcoming year. Some of my resolutions are a year without spending (to save money for World Race and to have money to pay for teacher certification and other applications) and reading the Bible in 60 (or 90) days.
So, I ask again, now what? Simply, more and more time spent raising financial support (unofficial number $1,000+), so I don’t have to stress about not being fully funded when that November 30, 2018, deadline comes around. If you can help at all, check out my Facebook page and adopt a box (all proceeds go directly to me, so I can go on the World Race)!
Thanks,
Angie Moore
Prayer Requests:
- More opportunities to share about World Race and Surprise the World,
- Rest throughout the rest of break, and
- My schedule for next semester gets sorted out.
Prayer Reports:
- With a lot of my monetary Christmas gifts, I was able to buy the majority of my gear;
- I had multiple family members give me exactly what I wanted for Christmas (financial support), so the unofficial number is around $1,000!
- The first box has been adopted, and
- We now have our first monthly donor!
