For those of you who have decided to join me (and others) in praying for the nations, here is January’s update! This month we will be praying for the South Africa, the third country that I will be traveling to during my World Race. I will be in South Africa during most, if not all, of the month of October.
Here is some information about South Africa, provided from Operation World:
- it is a republic with nine provinces (Northern Cape, Western Cape, Eastern Cape, Free State, North West Province, Limpopo, Gauteng, Mpuma Langa, and Kwazulu Natal),
- it is at the tip of the African continent,
- there are three capital cities: Cape Town (legislative), Pretoria (administrative), and Bloemfontein (judicial),
- two of the major (and internationally-renowned) cities are Johannesburg and Cape Town,
- its HDI Rank is 129 of 182,
- 8 of 65 people groups (12.3% of the population) have been unreached by the Gospel,
- the largest unreached people group are the Bjojpuri Bihari of South Africa,
- 96.25% of the population identify as Christian and 21.1% identify as Evangelicals, and
- the country still suffers from the results of the apartheid, manifested through racial inequality, poverty & economic inequality, and rape & other violent crime rates.
If you need a reminder of praying schedule, you can check out the introductory blog! Or, if you would like to be one of my prayer warriors (intentionally praying over and with me and others about my World Race), you can sign up here (an email list serve to get more information, specifically prayer requests and prayer reports).
God bless,
Angie Moore
