For those of you who have decided to join me (and others) in praying for the nations, here is February’s update! This month we will be praying for Botswana, the fourth country that I will be traveling to during my World Race. I will be in Botswana during most, if not all, of the month of November.
Here is some information about Botswana, provided from Operation World:
- it is 80% covered by the Kalahari Desert, making it dry and prone to severe droughts,
- it’s HDI rank is 125 of 182,
- of the nearly 2 million people, there are 51 people groups (about 2%) that have been unreached by the Gospel,
- of that 2 %, the Jewish population of Botswana is the largest portion,
- nearly 66% of the total population identifies as Christian, and another 8% identifies as Evangelical, and
- the country has been devastated by AIDS (the world’s second-highest prevalence of AIDS), reducing the life expectancy by 28 years and causing the AIDS orphan population to grow to over 100,000
