To my dearest child,

I am aware of all the different choices that life seems to be offering you: friends’ birthday celebrations, concerts, movie screenings, academic courses, and much more. I see that you are nervous, even afraid of what you won’t be able to do; afraid of being left out, fearful of missing out.

But, why are you afraid? There will be more parties, more classes, and more movies. You’ve missed a lot already; why is this any different? From countless birthdays, holidays, and reunions to graduations, performances, and games, you have been to a lot but also missed a lot. I am truly sorry that this is upsetting you.

But, why are you upset? Have I not promised to take care of you? Have I not proven Myself capable of keeping your family safe? What else can I do to show you, to prove to you that your fear, worry, and distress won’t protect them any more than it will put them in danger?

Can I tell you something? As you worry about all of these things, you are missing Me and how I wish to comfort you. Let Me soothe your doubts, calm your fears, and wipe away all that troubles you. I just want you to sit in My Presence. I want you to be at peace, abiding in My love. I want to satisfy all your longings and desires, because I love you, my sweet child.

Can I tell you something else? As you worry and fret, they take your attention off of Me. I want to be at the center of your life, to lead and guide you throughout your life, so We spend the rest of eternity together. I long to be with you, but I will not force you to be with me.

You may fear all of these things, but I fear I’m losing you in the process. They may make great memories and Instagram photos, but what are you giving up in the process? Is it worth it? I love you and I want to be with you, to quench your thirst, ease your pains, laugh with you in good times, weep with you in bad, and sit at the table and read with you in all the others. You fear the fleeting things of My Creation, but you don’t dear missing time with the Creator, your Father, the Lover & Pursuer of your soul.

Your Shield, Refuge, and Mighty Fortress
