Last month I lived in the land of the Thai
First time in Asia, Many hours to fly
I went to many temples, said lots of prayers
Praying for Jesus to waft through the air
His sweet fragrance of love that is free
To an idol no need to bow on your knee.
I talked to monks and heard their stories
I sang songs in temples of God’s glory
No one ever asked me to stop
When Jesus’ name I gladly dropped
Over and over and over again
Singing of how He saved me from sin.
They often gave gifts of food and of water
Allowed us to sit and pray for God’s power
The people were kind and always would smile
They didn’t understand why we stayed for a while
We wanted to invite God to this land
Through song and through prayer unleashing God’s hand.
On the rooftop each night we would sing songs
And invite God’s presence to come along
As we would sing and pray under the stars
Our teammates were wooing prostitutes in bars
Not for sex, not for pleasure, just purely in love
Sent as messengers from the father above
For one last week we went to Mae Ai
A village far away where everyone only spoke Thai
My team and I stayed with villagers in their homes
Eating lots of rice daily and a few ice cream cones
We learned how to take bucket showers
And when it hailed we didn’t have any power
For the first time in my life, I used a squatty potty
This wasn’t my favorite don’t want to use it a lotty
The rice fields were beautiful and very green
So far in Asia, the best landscape I had seen
We grouted some tile and mixed concrete
Loving the people who were so very sweet.
Month four was a blast in the land of the Thai
To this lovely country my heart now has a tie
I pray for the people in all of Thailand
Hoping joy comes from more than Songkran
People will see God’s love plain and simple
In their own hearts, they will make their temple.
