We are living in our lovely house at the base of a small hill.  Halfway up the hill, just across the road from us is the Children’s Home.  This is where 37 little cherubs reside.  They range in age from little Heartlyn who is just two months old to Maricel, a fifteen year old with some developmental difficulties.  These children come to the home in a variety of ways, for a variety of reason.  Some have been in the home their whole lives.  Others arrive at two, three and four years old.  There are several brother/sister pairs and trios, and in those cases, the oldest sibling is very protective of the younger ones.  Some of these children have parents who choose to give them up because they can’t provide for their children, and when they come to the home, many are very ill.  Malnourishment is often the least of their problems.  Many come in with sores or infections, and in those cases, they are taken to the hospital as soon as possible.  Despite their unfortunate beginnings, these are amazing kids.  They love to play, they love to have their pictures taken, and they love to hug!
