I had heard stories and seen videos of Cambodia… often the bush month with ridiculously big spiders and other such creatures; well, my month there did not disappoint!
Unexpectedly sweet Cambodia. Month 8 began rough for me, I was sick for the first week and missed our friends back in Thailand incredibly! But God put people in front of me that were impossible to overlook.
My team and I lived with a Cambodian family across the river from Phnom Penh (we took a ferry to get back and forth between the city). There were 12 of us sleeping in the same room! The Roeung family usually puts on a church service so a few of my teammates got the opportunity to preach this month, as well as lead kid’s church.
One of the daughters, Toni, teaches a preschool class in the morning AND goes to farm with her family in the afternoon AND holds three different English classes in the evening! She is an amazing woman committed to what she hears the Lord calling her to do for her community. My team and I helped with her classes—teaching English and loving on all the adorable Cambodian children!
You can see most of this in Kim’s video, plus a little bit of her adventures in Siem Reap where we had debrief (that’s when I was sick) and Brynne eating some fish eyeballs. She also shows a glimpse of the killing fields in Phnom Phen. To learn more about the genocide that took place in Cambodia visit http://www.historyplace.com/worldhistory/genocide/pol-pot.htm
At the very end of the month we received the news that we would be losing a member of our team, but gaining a new one. Brittany left our team so that she would get the opportunity to become a team leader to another great set of girls! And my old teammate Laura Spence and I have been reunited!! I’m so excited to see what the Lord has in store for our team!
