I walk up a narrow dirt path to get to a clinic in the Patsibal mountains in, Gutemala. Everyday, I spend 90min on public transportation aka vans and pick-up trucks. I pass by small structures that I can hardly believe are houses. Greeting, "Hola" to the children that pass, children that make me smile with joy and sink my heart symotaneausly.
Their book bags are old and tattered…. Many of their shoes are worn and dirty with holes in the toes or the soles…. But make no mistake, their souls are alive. They know that they are poor, they know that people in other parts of the world are not, but they are joyful!
They are so excited when they see a group of "gringos," (white foriegner or person from the U.S.A). They know we come to help, to play, to bring joy. What they don't know is that they are acctually the ones bringing us joy.
This month my team is working with Sally, Sara, & Irve, a wonderful missionary family, at a health clinic in the Mountains. We've been cleaning out some rooms and painting them so that Sally can move into a bigger room in order to better serve all the people that come to the clinic.
On Monday we will be teaching english inn the school at the bottom of the Mountain. I'm so excited. We have already made many relationships with the children in the community. God's present is so strong. He has blessed us with so much in a place with so little!
