Stretched … but not Broken

Since when is God concerned with our comfort?

As an American I see it all the time. Last week a storm rolled through and knocked some power lines down, leaving several families without electricity. I heard about it all day at work! We want our AC, our electricity, our __________. And if something comes in the way of us having what makes us secure we flip out!

It even seeps it our churches! Some people have that one seat at church that is theirs. They

get into a comfortable routine of showing up at church every Sunday concerned with how put together their familyappears to be, concerned with what everyone else is thinking about them.  We get in such a routine of going through the motions that we miss the person sitting right next to us. You know the one whose marriage is falling apart, or the widow who is struggling with the loss of a loved one.

What about if I take that a step further….

What about the child in Haiti who is living in a tent with a dirt floor, who is standing in line for food hoping that there is enough food to feed his starving body.

Or what about the teenage girl in Cambodia who lost her innocence when she thought she was getting  wonderful job opportunity to provide for her family, but in fact she ends up selling her body,  drugged and beaten and hopeless.

It is for them that I feel called to get out of my comfort zones and be stretched far beyond my levels of comfort. It is for them that I will leave my nice comfy cool soft bed, my wonderful job and comfortable life here in America to go sleep in a tent, with 6 people that will be around me 24/7. There's so much more to life than just living for me! They're worth it. If we don't go tell them about Jesus, WHO IS?  Maybe your role in the body of Christ isn't the feet… maybe its the hands. The feet need the hands to give so we can go! That role is just as important! Inabling people to go into all the world is very necessary, even if it means you have to live outside your comfort zones!

“Whoever gives one of these little ones only a cup of cold water in the name of a disciple, assuredly, I say to you, he shall by no means lose his reward." Matt 10:42
